Unforgiving straps, inflexible materials and insufficient ventilation can trap workers in an on again/off again struggle between meeting PPE requirements and getting the job done efficiently. Worse still, goggles are left unused on a workbench or back in the truck. The frustration is only exacerbated for users of prescription eyewear, who might forego their best vision if the goggle frame isn’t large enough to fit spectacles or sunglasses underneath. According to Safe Work Australia [data](https://data.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/interactive-data/topic/workers-compensation), eye injury has long been an issue for workers and employers, with 14,307 claims from 2008-09 to the latest reporting period in 2023-24. Serious claims (those that result in a week or more off work) reached a high of 1,071 in 2023-24. The goggles feature an easily adjustable cloth strap and a soft, flexible shroud that conforms to the contours of the face. A flexible, slotted nose bridge accommodates different-shaped faces, while the wraparound lens offers a wide field of view. Indirect venting allows heat to dissipate through the back to help reduce fog build-up, and the need for workers to constantly lift or remove the goggles. The goggles have a Scotchgard SG coating for anti-fog and anti-scratch protection, which is designed to withstand harsh conditions, including multiple wash cycles. Internal 3M tests show the coating resists fog up to 11 times longer and has seven times better anti-scratch performance than traditional 3M anti-fog coating. 3M Application Engineer and Product Specialist (Head Eye Face Portfolio) Kevin McComb says the SG coating uses a hydrophilic action to allow water from condensation to create a continuous film on the lens, inhibiting the fogging process and preventing condensation build up. Standard hydrophobic coatings rely on the anti-fog coating forming droplets from the condensation, which then run off the lens, resulting in the lens clearing but at a slower pace. Both models feature a soft TPV shroud to optimise comfort across long shifts. The clear [GG3101](https://www.blackwoods.com.au/eye-protection/safety-goggles/3m-gogglegear-3000-series/3m-trade-gogglegear-trade-3000-series-7100325030-safety-goggle-clear-frame-adjustable-polyester-elastic-strap-anti-fog-anti-scratch-coating-clear-lens/p/04499819) offers a more economical solution for shorter work stints, including a PVC shroud and traditional 3M anti-fog, anti-scratch coating. The PVC shroud offers chemical resistance and helps improve peripheral detection. It’s certified Medium Impact (I) to AS/NZS 1337:1. As for the goggles’ advantages over safety glasses? > *“They provide greater coverage area and a much better fit so there are no gaps.
