Quick installation tips

• Shut down the pipe for optimum results (though repairs under pressure can still save huge dollars in downtime).
• Use the outer pouch to carry water for application (only activate bandage with water when ready to apply). Clean and roughen pipe with metal file or wire brush before applying.
• Mix putty to an even colour (no black and grey zebra striping). Apply the bandage quickly and wrap tightly for strongest set.
• Using wet gloves, massage in circular motion until resin stops foaming.
• The bandage should be at least 10mm thick over the leak.
• It usually requires 12 to 15 wraps around the pipe.

A Rapp-it customer recently faced a live line repair at a busy Queensland coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP).

The problem

A 250mm pipe, with a 6mm wall, developed a crack while in use. The pipe contained an abrasive mixture of fine coal slurry, known to wear through polyurethane pipe spools. The line couldn’t be shut down due to operations running, with the pipe under low pressure (75 kPA).

The solution

The customer used Rapp-it RAP164 bandages (100mm x 4.8m) to repair the pipe. The outer packet was used to transport water to the application site. The pipe was prepared, and the wet bandage applied according to instructions.
