Pryme Helps Keeps Workers Safe and Productive in Heat

Australian workers are often exposed to extreme heat and humidity, in warehouses, mines and on construction sites. Safe Work Australia says working in heat can it make it harder for workers to concentrate. Workers can become confused, and are more likely to make mistakes.

The physical effects of heat-related illness can be severe. Heat stress can leave workers feeling thirsty, tired and sweaty. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, headache, nausea and feeling weak. According to the Australian Government’s healthdirect website, heat stroke is the most serious heat-related illness, where temperature spikes, and the body can no longer cool itself. Heat stroke can lead to confusion, seizures and loss of consciousness. It can potentially be fatal. It costs less to prevent a heat related accident or illness than it does to recover from one.

Heat management for every worker

For a quarter of a century, Pryme has delivered industry leading solutions to help protect the workforce from the effects of the harsh Australian climate. From helping keep workers hydrated to protecting them from the sun, Pryme’s products can form an essential part of heat management plans on worksites.

  • The Sqwincher range is designed to prevent dehydration. This scientifically-balanced great-tasting electrolyte replenishment comes in concentrate and powder versions, with a pump spout (for workstations) and mobile single serves (with a pouch that can be used as a cup).
  • The Ergodyne range offers innovative evaporative cooling vests and towels for all-day, top-up cooling (just add water). Add mobile hydration backpacks along with multi-bands, bandanas and cooling hat liners for steamy jobs.

Pryme also offers ‘toolbox talks’ across Australia, to help educate workers and assist companies to implement effective heat management plans.

Hydration, protection, prevention

Pryme is busy helping to protect Australia’s most heat-exposed workers in a range of industries. Here’s how:

  • Major construction sites. Products are available in vending machines at convenient points on-site.
  • Oil, gas, resources. Choose fire resistant multi-bands and towels, to withstand exposure to flames.
  • Overground/underground mines. Hi-vis cooling PPE is ideal for on-site visibility, with fire resistant options and mobile hydration backpacks available.
  • Deep in the warehouse. Cooling towels and bandanas are popular in soaring warehouse temperatures.
  • Agriculture, outdoors. Multi-bands can be worn around the head, neck and wrists.
  • Confined space and radiant heat. Workers benefit from evaporative cooling vests and bandanas for day-long protection.

Caitlin Debiasio, Pryme Sales Manager, says cool, hydrated workers make clearer decisions and are more likely to go home safe and well at the end of their shifts. “Heat stress is 100% preventable. Using hydration, protection and prevention as the three pillars of your heat management plan, you have a ready-made solution for every worker to stay cool, safe and productive.”
