On mine and construction sites, across large manufacturing operations, equipment gets lost, stolen and damaged every day. It’s a major brake on productivity and profit.
That’s why Makita is transforming the way businesses procure, monitor and operate equipment. The Makita XGT range of power tools with XDefence technology is digitally enabled to help businesses manage assets more efficiently, reduce waste and boost performance.
The XGT range is designed for the harshest conditions and most demanding applications. There’s superior power and durability. Features like a high level of water and dust ingress resistance. Advanced communication between tool and battery, optimising performance and extending both tool and battery life.
Increase Accountability
Digital pin coding ensures equipment is returned to designated areas. It can be quickly redeployed, while reducing theft, loss and cross-migration.
Monitor Performance
Advanced diagnostic capabilities record events like kickbacks, overload and overheating.
Identify Vulnerabilities
These diagnostics identify inappropriate use, indicating the need for training.
Boost Productivity
XGT tools are tough! Fewer breakdowns mean less downtime. Tool life is extended, leading to less reactive purchasing and premature disposal.
Minimise Fatigue
The high power-to-weight ratio of XGT tools means workers can use lighter equipment for heavier duty tasks, reducing arm strain and boosting productivity.
Andrew Shaw, Makita’s National Business Development Manager, gives two key examples of efficiencies generated by the range.
1. Less Weight, More HeftProblem: Workers were struggling with arm fatigue, due to the weight of a competitor’s power tools.
Solution: The company switched to XGT. Workers were able to perform the same task with a tool almost half the weight, doubling productivity and eliminating fatigue complaints.
2. User Coding, Ensuring Accountability
Problem: The employer was exasperated by teams being constantly short of tools. Workers were careless, leading to high failure rates, breakdowns, tool loss and mixed brands.
Solution: XGT tools were rolled out, with each kit pin coded and digitally etched with the users’ details. Result? A swift boost in personal responsibility and site-wide productivity.
Makita helped the employer set up an internal KPI system to monitor tool care. This was analysed quarterly to determine misuse and identify users in need of training.
According to Andrew, XGT tools can do the same job as pneumatic or electric-powered products, with the benefit of cord-free power. This reduces entanglement and trip risks, and potential electrocution hazards. “XDefence is an advanced asset management system that is unique to the inherent tech incorporated into Makita’s XGT 40V Max and 80V Max range. It serves as an effective theft deterrent for both tools and batteries, as well as allowing for user-defined usage parameters of these products.”
