Smarter welding safety in manufacturing: How integrated controls improve efficiency and compliance
Manufacturing is one of Australia’s most welding-intensive sectors, accounting for over 20% of national demand for steel fabricated products (Weld...
Engineering controls, such as fume extraction systems, can be instrumental in reducing welding fume exposure for not only the welder, but also for those who work near welding operations.
A 2024 survey revealed that only 19% of the Australian welding industry use some form of engineering control1. However, more workplaces are now beginning to invest in portable fume extraction. These systems can be more economical when compared to fixed installations, and in many situations offer more flexibility as requirements change over time.
To that end, the new Nederman GoMax Fume Extraction System blends compact power with maximum protection against welding fume and other workplace respiratory hazards.
The Nederman GoMax is fully compatible with Translas fume guns, and as a combined kit can capture welding fume at the source, serve multiple workstations simultaneously, and be freely manoeuvred and wall mounted if necessary.
Engineered for efficiency, the GoMax delivers robust single-phase performance ideal for one or two welders. With dual outlets as standard, it’s ready when you are to support a second torch without the need for costly upgrades (see below).
Crafted in Sweden with a premium brushless motor, Nederman GoMax is designed for durability and long-term reliability – making it a smart investment for any welding operation.
The intelligent Set-and-Forget flow control lets you set a precise flow rate tailored to your torch. It automatically adjusts to maintain that rate, scaling up when a second torch is added and scaling down when removed. The result is consistent performance without the need for manual intervention.
This self-sufficiency also applies to the unit’s maintenance, as the Nederman GoMax cleans itself automatically based on welding activity. Cleaning cycles are activated as needed, ensuring peak efficiency and allowing welders to focus on welding.
In terms of the filter itself, the GoMax employs a state-of-the-art nanofiber filter capable of achieving 99.7% filtration efficiency across all weldable metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys.

Welders can stay informed with a user-friendly interface that displays live flow rates, pressure levels, and visual indicators for filter status and fume tray capacity.
Ultimately, whether you’re working manually, with robots, or cobots, the Nederman GoMax can adapt seamlessly to your setup to deliver consistent fume extraction across all environments. To that end, the GoMax meets the rigorous W3 standard, and is certified to extract carcinogenic fumes from stainless steel and high-alloy materials and capture particles smaller than 1 µm.
Each Nederman GoMax On-Gun kit contains every component you’ll need to get started with on-gun fume extraction, including your extraction guns, sensing cable, airflow meter, hoses, couplers & adaptors.
