Lightweight Scaffold Optimises Working at Height

Lightweight Scaffold Optimises Working at Height

Falls from height are a common cause of injury in the workforce. When employees are required to work at height, they need to be able to do so as safely as possible.

The Zippy-Scaff from Oldfields might just be the answer! It’s a mobile, lightweight, foldable scaffold. Designed to be easy to set up and use, the Zippy helps make working at height safer and more convenient.

It suits a wide variety of trades and applications, including electrical, plumbing, painting and decorating, sign-writing and blind or curtain installation. It can also be used for DIY jobs in domestic settings.

Mobile and manoeuvrable

A standout feature of the Zippy is its manoeuvrability and mobility. It fits through most doorways and comes on castors. These can be unlocked to move the Zippy around from one spot to the next as needed. It can also be used outdoors, as long as the terrain is firm and level.

The base unit allows for varying platform heights, avoiding the overreaching that can happen when using a ladder. For higher levels, an additional guardrail extension is available.

The Zippy-Scaff takes up very little room when collapsed for storing away – making it ideal for situations where storage space is limited.

There is no compromise on safety with the Zippy-Scaff. It is registered with SafeWork NSW and fully compliant with the relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards.

Outstanding features and benefits

  • Easy to transport – the Zippy base unit is made from lightweight aluminium materials, making easy to lift and place in a utility or van.
  • Simple design and assembly – the base Zippy comes with only three assembly parts: the base unit, plywood platform and the horizontal brace. The base unit simply unfolds and locks into place. From here, the platform can be fit to the desired rung level, which might typically be at 0.9, 1.2 or 1.4 metres above the ground. The horizontal brace provides additional stability.
  • Modularity – the extension packs (purchased separately) allow the platform level to be set at heights up to 3.9m aboveground. The packs come with multiple parts which are simple to fit together and lock into place.
  • Easy-climbing – at 2.9 metres and above, the extension packs come with built-in ladder access.
  • Tough and robust – the platform is able to cope with loads of up to 225kg.
  • Option of materials – a highly durable and non-conductive fibreglass Zippy-Scaff version is also available. This is designed to withstand harsh environments in mining and construction and is suitable for use when working with live electricity.

Using the Zippy-Scaff safely

Certain precautions must be followed when using the Zippy-Scaff. This starts with ensuring the ground is even and level (no more than a five-degree incline or decline), and that the worksite has been evaluated for potential hazards.

Other safety precautions include locking the castor brake-lever downwards, only climbing the unit from inside the tower, and ensuring the platform is never placed on the top rung unless the guardrail extension is fitted.
