Lifting construction project efficiency to a new level

Lifting construction project efficiency to a new level

High-capacity cranes are the go-to solution for lifting and installing precast steel and concrete elements on bridge, building and tunnel projects. But cranes can create scheduling bottlenecks, suspended loads pose a safety risk and then there’s the need for large exclusion zones which limit other site activities, ultimately impacting efficiency.

What if more flexible lifting options existed?

Enerpac delivers heavy lifting, without the complexity.

Enerpac Tool Group’s heavy lifting solutions combine technology with engineering and deep application knowledge to transform the lifting process.

The range enables synchronous lifting and lowering to position and install large-scale precast elements. The synchronous process, managed remotely via an Enerpac Intelli-Lift 2.0 Wireless Gantry Controller or operator laptop for precise control of Jack-Ups, ensures all lifting points move concurrently, balancing load distribution during installation or demolition.

Hydraulic jack-up systems can lift up to 15 metres. Cube jacks provide contractors with a stable lift of two to three metres, both without the need for suspended loads.

Enerpac gantries and strand jacks are highly efficient lifting solutions that are more compact than conventional cranes. Their reduced footprint helps avoid the need for large exclusion zones, while their modular design allows them to be containerised for transport, reducing mobilisation and demobilisation costs. Gantry systems can typically achieve lift heights of up to 12 metres, while strand jacks offer greater lifting height capability.

Mounted on heavy-lift platform vehicles such as SPMTs (self-propelled modular transporters), Enerpac’s lifting equipment frees up cranes, helping overcome scheduling bottlenecks while enabling a smaller work zone footprint.

Varghese George, Sales Manager – HIT / APAC Infrastructure Vertical Market at Enerpac, says the high-tech range helps clear congestion and obstructions so critical path activities can be completed.

“Time and safety must be respected. Our technology can help minimise road closures, traffic isn’t impacted, and companies can see a quicker return on investment by starting to generate their revenue earlier,” Varghese says.

He cites the installation of a 1400-tonne bridge deck to explain Enerpac’s timing advantage.

The 74m x 16m x 6.8m precast concrete structure with 1.5m inclination was installed above a major dual lane motorway over one weekend (no weekday road closures were permitted) thanks to eight Enerpac JS250 jack-up system towers moved into place by SPMTs.

It’s a similar story underground, where increasing tunnel diameters demand larger tunnel boring machines (TBM), making assembly, lifting and relocation within shafts and stations complex, space constrained and inefficient for conventional methods.

Enerpac’s hydraulic gantries streamline TBM assembly within pits, while smart transporters precisely manoeuvre heavy tunnel components at stations.

Discover the Enerpac range.

Enerpac’s heavy lifting range includes:

  • Jack-up systems that deliver a lifting capacity of up to 500 metric tonnes per lifting tower. An operator can control up to eight jack-up towers simultaneously with one SBLT1 standard laptop. The computer control unit's synchronous technology maintains the load’s balance.
  • Self-locking cube jacks that have a lifting capacity of up to 1000 kilonewton (kN) per cube and are ideal for use in confined spaces.
  • Hydraulic gantries offer a lifting capacity of up to 10,484 kN with four legs. These are an efficient way to lift and position heavy loads in applications where traditional cranes won’t fit and permanent overhead structures are not an option.
  • Strand jacks can lift up to 850 metric tonnes each, with two or more usually used per job. Considered a linear winch, the lifting technique for these originates from the concrete post tensioning principle.

Together with SPMTs, Enerpac’s range can help reduce the reliance on cranes, streamline site logistics and maintain safety.
