Be clear on worker protection with Bollé Safety goggles
In mining, resources and construction industries across Australia, workers’ eyes are exposed to a range of hazards, including particulates, gas, dust...
Safety glasses that constantly fog up in hot and humid manufacturing environments can put workers at risk. Workers tend to take the glasses off for cleaning, defeating the purpose of PPE.
The cleaning also often happens with whatever is handy - a rag or the hem of a shirt - which can cause micro-scratches that damage the lenses. Coatings on the lenses of safety glasses can help prevent or slow down fogging and protect against scratching. But these coatings are not all created equal!
To meet the European Standard for anti-fogging (EN166), lenses must resist fogging for a minimum of eight seconds when subjected to a steam test. Glasses that pass the test are marked with the letter N – resistance to fogging.
The same European Standard also applies to scratching. Safety glasses that meet anti-scratch tests are marked K – resistance to abrasion. Without this designation, the lenses may be more easily scratched. It’s important to note that there are no Australian Standards related to anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings.
There are plenty of safety glasses available that meet these standards. But what if there were safety glasses that stayed reliably free of fogging for much longer than the standard, and provided protection against scratching at the same time?
Bollé Safety’s Platinum coating far exceeds the standard for anti-fog and provides strong resistance to scratching, meaning clearer vision for longer and fewer replacements. The coating is available on all of Bollé Safety’s premium ranges, including the stylish STKS and Rush+.

There’s also a Platinum Lite coating suitable for lower-risk workplaces on more economical ranges including the Swift.
Bollé Safety’s Senior Trade Marketing Specialist for APAC, Rimma Shabanova, describes the Platinum coating as a “game changer” for high-pressure manufacturing environments. She says the coating helps workers maintain clearer vision, without the need for such constant cleaning.
“And because these glasses last the distance, they can save your business time and money overall.”
