This is mainly due to long-running preconceptions around on-gun technology, as in the past it’s been too heavy, too bulky, and known to impact the shielding gas leading to porosity issues. ***But not anymore…*** Dutch on-gun fume extraction specialists, Translas, have just launched an industry first in Australia: a range of lightweight, maneuverable, and ergonomic extraction guns that deliver a market-leading capture rate of *up to 98%* while leaving the shielding gas *completely unaffected*. No other welding fume control solution captures welding fume at the source, removes it from the environment, and most importantly, *follows the welder as they move*. Want to see the magic of Translas on-gun fume extraction for yourself? Check out this side-by-side comparison!   **How have Translas extraction guns changed the game?** Not only are Translas extractor guns the same weight or lighter than most standard welding guns, but the 8XE 250 Amp MINI MIG Extractor is actually the lightest fume extraction gun on the market. What’s more, the small ergonomic handle makes Translas guns exceptionally comfortable to work with for any welder. And to avoid porosity issues, the gun’s cyclonic extraction effect operates like the eye of a storm, leaving the shielding gas completely unaffected. When you combine all that with the highest capture rate (up to 98%) and duty cycle (100%) in the industry, a self-cleaning extraction unit, and the potential to be used in confined spaces\*\*, it’s safe to say Translas has completely changed the game in fume extraction! **Are you interested in Translas for your business?** Some of the largest welding businesses in Australia are already locking in Translas demonstrations to experience this new technology. If your company would be interested in trying out this industry game-changer, [contact your local Blackwoods Welding Specialist today!](https://info.blackwoods.com.au/welding-specialists) \* 2021 Welding Method, Material, and Consumable Survey, AWS \*\* Confined spaces can be deadly and decisions on how to handle a specific confined space must be assessed on the spot and always comes down to the specifics of the individual situation. There should be a suitably trained and knowledgeable person doing the assessment and design of a safe system for any confined space entry.   [SHOP AWS](https://www.blackwoods.com.au/3m-speedglas/b/13704815/brand) [![aws](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/Logos/aws.jpg?width=147&height=147&name=aws.jpg)](https://www.blackwoods.com.au/3m-speedglas/b/13704815/brand)     [Fabrication](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/tag/fabrication) - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) ## **Read related articles** [![Nederman GoMax captures welding fume at the source](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/hubfs/EOFY%20AWS%20(1).jpg)](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/nederman-gomax-captures-welding-fume-at-the-source) #### [Nederman GoMax captures welding fume at the source](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/nederman-gomax-captures-welding-fume-at-the-source) ![Picture of AWS](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/hs-fs/hubfs/1519871717954.jpg?width=30&name=1519871717954.jpg) [AWS](https://blog.blackwoods.com.au/author/aws) : 6 May 2026 Engineering controls, such as fume extraction systems, can be instrumental in reducing welding fume exposure for not only the welder, but also for...
