Blackwoods Battery Stewardship Program

EcoBatt’s Battery Collection Service is now available at all Blackwoods Trade Stores in Australia.  It has never been more convenient for our customers to recycle batteries.   

EcoBatt, part of the EcoCycle group of companies, operates more than 6,500 collection bins across Australia in partnership with leading retailers. They are leading efforts to reduce the number of batteries ending up in landfill by ensuring batteries are safely transported from drop-off points, such as Blackwoods, to their sorting and recycling facilities.   

EcoBatt’s Smart Battery Kiosks are fitted with sensors that monitor temperature, measure the bins fill levels, and include GPS tracking to support safe and efficient collection across the country. 

EcoBatt is an accredited recycler with B-Cycle (Battery Stewardship Council) and is committed to achieving world-class standards in battery recycling. Particularly, in relation to button cell and lithium batteries. These types of batteries pose a serious environmental threat when sent to landfill or incinerated, as mercury and silver-based button cells can leak toxic substances into water supplies and food chains, reinforcing the critical need for safe and sustainable battery recycling. 

Australian battery recycling is less than a third of what is being achieved in Europe with only 15.3% of Australian batteries being recycled. EcoBatt is working closely with their retail partners to establish accessible battery collection points across the country, ensuring the safe collection, transport and processing of batteries while keeping hazardous materials out of landfill.
