Dialling up safety with precise glove selection
Precise glove selection is essential in preventing chemical-related injuries and sustaining productivity across water utility operations. Workers can...
Carbon emissions have become a hot topic in the last few decades. According to CSIRO, about 90% of the world’s carbon emissions comes from the burning of fossil fuels – mainly for electricity, heat and transport.*
At Blackwoods, acting ethically and with integrity is fundamental to how we operate as a business. Through collaboration with our supply partners, we work towards a more circular economy — seeking innovative manufacturing and product solutions. One such business is Ansell, a leading personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturer. Ansell is on a mission to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040.**
Jihee Noh, Senior Specialist, Marketing & Business Development says,
"At Ansell, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our Net Zero strategy reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact through renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, and sustainable product design. Our philosophy as a business is to ‘stay two steps ahead of workplace risk – lead your organisation to a safer future’. We are proud to contribute to a safer and more sustainable future for both people and the planet.”
Ansell's sustainable hand protection solutions deliver exceptional safety and performance while minimising environmental impact.
Ansell's Action Plans Include:
Obtaining 100% of their energy from renewable energy sources: Like wind, solar and hydropower (they’re currently sitting at 31%). This will substantially lower their greenhouse gas emissions, improve operational efficiency as many renewable technologies require less maintenance, and produce fewer harmful byproducts than burning fossil fuels.
Implementing Energy Management Systems: Ansell have rolled out energy management systems in 4 manufacturing plants (ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System) and will continue to roll this system out to all 14 manufacturing plants to ensure energy efficiency and reduce waste.
Eliminating landfill waste from production: Ansell diverts 99.8% of their waste from landfills - with 65% reused or recycled - across 12 manufacturing plants as Zero Waste to Landfill certified by Intertek.
Designing products with sustainability in mind: Using a proportion of recycled and bio-based materials depending on product. Currently, 60% of new products are designed with reduced environmental impact***, and the business is aiming for 80%.
Reducing waste in packaging: The outer and inner dispenser of their packaging is now recyclable for 97% of their industrial product and 100% of their healthcare product.
Protecting Natural Resources: By reducing water withdrawal.

One thing almost all manufacturing businesses have in common, no matter what they produce or how they produce it, is the need for protective gloves.
